Phreeli: Plans, Coverage & Deals

Phreeli is a cell phone carrier known as a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO.

An MVNO is simply any cell phone carrier that does not operate its own cellular network.

Instead of building their own networks, MVNOs make agreements with the four big carriers to use their cellular networks for coverage.

In Phreeli’s case, it uses the T-Mobile network for coverage. Service is available across the US and Puerto Rico, except Alaska.

Phreeli was founded by Nicholas Merrill, a privacy advocate who challenged an FBI National Security Letter under the USA PATRIOT Act in 2004 and later started the Calyx Institute. The company is built to know as little about you as possible.

To sign up, you only need a ZIP+4 code and a way to pay. Phreeli doesn't ask for your name, and it only needs an address if you want a physical SIM shipped to you. Email is optional.

Its Double Blind Armadillo system keeps your account and payment details separate from your phone number and your call, text, and data activity. Because of this, some account changes can take up to 24 hours, and eSIMs arrive within 24 hours.

Phreeli never sells your data or uses it for targeted ads. You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or cryptocurrency, and customer support is anonymous.

Plans run from $25 to $85 a month with taxes and fees included. Every plan has unlimited talk and text, calling and texting to 100+ countries, and roaming in 100+ destinations. Both eSIM and physical SIM are available, and 5G is supported.

Service is prepaid with no contract, no late fees, and no fees to move your number out. For now, each account has one phone number, so there are no family plans.
