Top 7 Best Unlimited Plans in 2022

We found the best budget and premium unlimited data plans in 2022. See how you can pay just $25 per month for unlimited data.

Unlimited data plans are becoming increasingly popular in the cell phone industry.

People enjoy being able to use their cell phones as much as they want without having to think about their cellular data usage.

Plus, people are using more cellular data than ever before.

According to Ericsson’s Mobility Report for 2021, people in North America use an average of 14.6GB data per month. And that number is projected to increase to a whopping 52GB per month in 2027.

People are using more and more data largely thanks to more data-intensive apps and use cases: using Google Maps for navigation; streaming TV shows, movies, and YouTube videos in HD or 4K; FaceTiming friends and family; and experimenting with new AR and VR experiences created by Snapchat, Facebook, and other companies.

And with 5G, it's easier to use more cellular data than ever before, too. Data speeds have become so fast that running a simple speed test can use up to 5GB on Verizon’s Ultra Wideband 5G network.

So if you are looking for the best unlimited data plans for 2022, you’ve come to the right place.

Here are our picks for the top seven best unlimited data plans for 2022:

  1. Best cheap unlimited plan: Visible Unlimited
  2. Best high data amount plan: Mint Mobile Unlimited
  3. Best value Verizon unlimited plan: Xfinity Mobile Unlimited
  4. Best value T-Mobile unlimited plan: Metro by T-Mobile Unlimited
  5. Best premium AT&T unlimited plan: AT&T Unlimited Elite
  6. Best premium Verizon plan: Verizon Play More Unlimited
  7. Best premium T-Mobile unlimited plan: T-Mobile Magenta MAX

1. Best cheap unlimited plan: Visible

Visible’s unlimited data plan has made a splash in the industry because of how affordable it is and what features it includes.

For $40 per month you get unlimited high-speed data on the Verizon network, unlimited hotspot data with speeds up to 5Mbps (fast enough to stream 1080p video on YouTube), unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, and free international calling to Canada, Mexico, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.

The best part about Visible? Their Party Pay group discount.

Party Pay lets you join a group of people, called a “party,” to get a group discount on your Visible cell phone bill. Each Visible account is still billed separately, so it is completely safe to join a group with friends, family, or people you meet online. You could even join our BestPhonePlans Party (currently with 15,031+ members and counting) to lock in the discount.

The maximum discount saves you 37% ($15) off your bill, bringing the cost of unlimited data down to just $25 per month.

2. Best annual unlimited plan: Mint Mobile Unlimited

Most carriers want people to believe they need an unlimited data plan. Why? Quite simply, the carriers make more money.

What if you don’t actually need an unlimited data plan?

According to Ericsson’s 2021 Annual Internet Report, the average cell phone data use is only at 14.6GB per month in North America.

That means a large majority of people reading would be perfectly fine with a 15GB-25GB plan. They could still use their phones exactly how they used to––streaming music, getting directions with Google Maps, watching their favorite YouTubers––and not go over their high-speed allotment or worry about slow speeds.

So for a lot of people getting a cell phone plan with a high data amount can be a great way to save money while still getting a plan that meets their needs.

That's why we recommend Mint Mobile's Unlimited plan as part of our best unlimited data plans list.

For just $25 per month, you’re getting a plan that includes unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 35GB of high-speed data, and 5GB of hotspot data. This is perfect for a lot of people.

Mint Mobile uses the T-Mobile network to provide coverage.

This plan is an annual plan though, which means you're paying $300 upfront for service. Thankfully, new customers can get their first 3 months for just $75, which also breaks down to $25 per month.

Paying $300 up front for a year of service may seem like a lot of money, but it's actually well under half the price of T-Mobile's Magenta plan. Magenta is $70 per month, or $840 per year for a single line.

So Mint is passing huge savings onto their customers thanks to their bulk pricing discounts.

3. Best value Verizon unlimited plan: Xfinity Mobile Unlimited

For customers looking for a great value unlimited plan that uses Verizon for coverage, they may want to check out Xfinity Mobile.

Xfinity Mobile’s unlimited data plan is $45 per month. It includes 20GB of data at full speeds before unlimited data at 1.5Mbps (fast enough to stream a 480p video) and unlimited hotspot data at 600Kbps.

You also get great feature support with this plan: VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail, domestic roaming, and add-ons for international calling and international data.

The best part about this plan is that it also includes 5G access on Verizon’s Nationwide 5G and Ultra Wideband 5G networks, for the best coverage and fastest data speeds possible.

Additionally, Xfinity Mobile has priority data. This means that during times when the network is busy, such as at sports games, stadiums, concerts, or airports, Xfinity Mobile customers will get slightly faster data speeds than customers on other prepaid plans who are deprioritized.

Families looking for a great value will also appreciate Xfinity Mobile’s unlimited plan. The cost for four lines drops to just $30 per line, or $120 per month total. That’s $60/month less than the total cost of Verizon’s popular unlimited plans, which means Xfinity Mobile can save families around $720 per year.

The downside to Xfinity Mobile is that it is only available for current Xfinity Internet, TV, or phone customers. But if you are an existing customer, this plan is certainly one worth looking into.

4. Best value T-Mobile unlimited plan: Metro by T-Mobile Unlimited

If you’re looking for an affordable plan on the T-Mobile network with truly unlimited data, then look no further than Metro by T-Mobile’s unlimited plan.

This plan comes in at $50 per month (taxes and fees included) for truly unlimited data, 5GB of hotspot data, unlimited minutes, and unlimited texts.

Metro by T-Mobile supports a lot of key features that you love, too, such as visual voicemail, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, and 5G access on T-Mobile’s Extended Range 5G and Ultra Capacity 5G networks.

You also have options to purchase international calling add-ons, if you need them.

Overall this is an excellent value plan for single-line users.

Families, however, will want to upgrade to Metro’s $60 unlimited plan. This seems more expensive at first ($60 compared to $50), but surprisingly the family discount makes it more affordable. Four lines comes out to just $30/month per line ($120/month total) compared to $35/month per line ($140/month total) on the $50 unlimited plan.

We don’t understand it, either, but the discount makes the $60 unlimited plan a superb value.

The $60 unlimited plan includes extra perks, too. You get an extra 10GB of hotspot data for 15GB total, and you also get 100GB of Google One storage and a free Amazon Prime membership.

These perks are included for the single-line plan, too, so individuals may consider bumping up from the $50 unlimited plan to the $60 unlimited plan if they want the extra hotspot data and the extra perks.

5. Best premium Verizon plan: Verizon Play More Unlimited

Verizon Play More Unlimited plan is our pick for the best premium unlimited plan on the Verizon network. We think it provides a good balance between price, features, and perks.

Play More Unlimited is $80 per month for a single line and $180 per month for a family of four.

It includes 50GB of priority data, 25GB of high-speed hotspot data and 720p video streaming.

You also get all of the features you’d expect with a premium cell phone plan: VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling, visual voicemail, domestic roaming, eSIM, and add-ons for international calling and international data roaming.

Additionally, Play More Unlimited includes excellent perks. You get Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, an Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass subscription, 6 months of Apple Music, and 50% off Verizon’s LTE and 5G home internet service all included for free with your service.

Overall we feel this plan is a great option for premium service and a premium experience on Verizon

If you wanted to though, you could upgrade to the Get More Unlimited plan for $10 extra per month. We don’t think too many people will need this plan, but it does offer a few nice improvements.

Get More upgrades the priority data from 50GB to unlimited, doubles the hotspot from 25GB to 50GB, gives you a free international DayPass each month, includes 600GB of Verizon Cloud Storage, saves you 50% off a connected device plan (those are the plans for smartwatches and tablets) AND it includes all the same perks as Play More Unlimited.

It’s expensive, and again we feel most people won’t need it, but Get More unlimited does certainly give you more.

That said, we’re all about helping people save money here, so overall we feel the Play More plan is the best balance between price and features.
