Cell Phone Plan Changes We Saw In 2025

Summary

T-Mobile was the only big carrier to announce new plan last year
Broadly speaking, MVNOs kept prices the same price and increased data amounts
Lots of plans added extra international features

Every January I go through the database of over 1,000 cell phone plans powering BestPhonePlans.net and update them all.

I update prices. I update data amounts. I update international perks and features. And often times I go through the checkout process again to make sure the estimated cost after taxes and fees is accurate.

It's not exactly glamorous work. (It's hellishly tedioius).

But I also enjoy it.

I think it's fascinating to see what changes year over year for all the plans.

During the process, I take notes about what changed on all of the plans so I can keep track.

Here are all of my notes for all of the plan changes we saw in 2025:

Affinity Cellular

- Hotspot appears to have been removed from the 1GB and 5GB plans (previously was 600Kbps hotspot data)
- The unlimited plans previously said "priority data” on the BestPhonePlans website, but I think that was a mistake. I believe these are QCI 7 (deprioritized) on the T-Mobile network, with speeds slowed to 512Kbps after you reach your high-speed allotment.
Red Pocket

- $20 10GB → 20GB
- $30 50GB, 5GB hotspot → 50GB then unlimited @ 150Mbps (AT&T only, T-Mobile and Verizon stop at 50GB), 10GB hotspot
