Ultra Mobile is a prepaid cell phone carrier known as a mobile virtual network operator, or MVNO.
An MVNO is simply any cell phone carrier that does not operate its own cellular network.
Instead of building their own networks, MVNOs make agreements with the four big carriers to use their cellular networks for coverage.
In Ultra Mobile’s case, it uses the T-Mobile network for coverage.
If you are curious to learn more about how the agreements work between the big carriers and the small carriers, check out my article on how some cell phone plans can cost so much less than others.

Yes, Ultra Mobile supports both international calling and international data roaming.
Most of Ultra Mobile's plans include free international calls and texts to over 90 countries. Additional countries are available at pay-per-minute rates.
Some of Ultra Mobile's plans also include international data roaming. The way it works is international talk, text, and data usage is billed at a pay-per-use rate. The plans that include international roaming come with $10 of international credit that your usage counts against. Once you run out of credit, you have to refill to continue using your service while abroad.
Plans that do not include international roaming credit will require you to add international balance to your account before traveling abroad. Then, all of your usage is billed at the pay-per-use rates.
Get talk, text, and data service when you travel internationally.
The way international roaming works on Ultra Mobile is you add either $5, $10, or $20 of international credit to your account.
Then, minutes, texts, and data that you use while abroad are deducted from your international balance at pay-per-use rates. Common rates are $0.25 per minute, $0.05 per text sent or received, and $0.20 per MB. Keep in mind that $0.20 per MB is equivalent to $200 per GB, which is quite expensive. You may consider other options for international data.
