Three iPhones on desk displaying AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile logos on screen

In this article, I’m covering 15 the best unlimited data plans on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

I’ll cover:

  • The 5 Best Cheap Unlimited Plans
  • The 6 Best Value Unlimited Plans
  • The 3 Best Postpaid Unlimited Plans

Keep in mind you can always compare the best unlimited plans side-by-side using our free cell phone plan comparison tool

Do You Need Unlimited Data?

First, do you really need unlimited data?

It turns out that people in North America only use about 14.6GB per month on average, according to Ericsson’s 2021 Mobility Report.

And it also turns out that people who are on unlimited plans, even the top-tier T-Mobile Magenta MAX, AT&T Unlimited Premium, and Verizon 5G Get More plans, are only using about 18GB to 20GB per month on average.

This means people are paying for data they don’t need!

I don’t want this to happen to you because my goal is to help as many people as possible save money on their cell phone bill.

Checking your data usage and getting a cell phone plan that meets your specific needs is one of the best ways to lower your cell phone bill.

If it turns out that you only need 5GB of data per month, why pay $80 unlimited plan?

Suggested: How Much Cellular Data Do You Need?

3 Great High-Data Alternatives That Will Save You Hundreds Of Dollars Per Year

With that said, here are my top 3 high-data plans that come with big data amounts and will save you a ton of money per year over the major carriers:

  1. Best high-data AT&T plan: Boost Mobile 35GB
  2. Best high-data T-Mobile plan: Mint Mobile 35GB
  3. Best high-data Verizon plan: US Mobile 18GB

Instead of getting AT&T Unlimited Premium, you could get Boost Mobile’s 35GB plan. You’d save $720 per year and still get 35GB of high speeds data, 12GB of hotspot data, and 5G access.

And instead of getting Verizon’s 5G Get More plan, you could go with US Mobile’s 18GB plan. It’s just $25 per month, so it would save you $780 per year. Hotspot is also available for a $5 add-on.

These plans aren’t truly unlimited, but they come with enough data that for most people, they would effectively feel like truly unlimited plans.

Heck, the most data I’ve ever used per month is 18GB, so any of these plans would be perfect for me, and they could be great options for you, too.

My goal is to help as many people as possible save money on their cell phone bill. I encourage you to consider the options from Boost Mobile, Mint Mobile, and US Mobile because that’s exactly what these plans will do.

But, what if you check your average monthly data usage, and it turns out you’re using over 35GB per month?

Well my friend, that means you do, in fact, need a truly unlimited plan, and I’ve got you covered.

Without further ado, let’s jump into the 15 best unlimited data plans for a single line.

5 Best Cheap Unlimited Data Plans

If you’re looking for straight up the cheapest unlimited data plans on the market, this section is for you.

The best cheap unlimited data plans come from AT&T Prepaid, Cricket, Walmart Family Mobile, T-Mobile Prepaid, and Visible.

Visible’s $25 unlimited plan is one of the best value unlimited plans in the industry. It’s the cheapest truly unlimited plan available, and it still comes packed with a surprising amount of features.

You get unlimited hotspot data with speeds up to 10Mbps, 5G access on Verizon’s 5G Nationwide and 5G Ultra Wideband networks with speeds up to 200Mbps, free international calling to Canada, Mexico, the US Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico, and even eSIM activations.

It really is a great value plan.

That said, a notable downside to Visible can be the performance.

Visible is deprioritzed, which means it’ll get slower speeds when the Verizon network is busy, which can be at certain times of day or at certain crowded locations. Once the network is no longer busy, Visible will resume getting full performance.

Another factor is that Visble only has two data servers: one in Colorado and one in New Jersey.

All Visible traffic needs to be routed through these servers, and what this means for you is that you can sometimes have high pings times. This translates to higher latency, which means potentially laggier gameplay for online games, and sometimes the service feeling a little slow.

Still, at $25 per month, it is a tremendous value, and I’d consider taking advantage of Visible’s 15-day free trial before ruling them out. They can still work great for a lot of people.

The best cheap AT&T plan is AT&T’s Prepaid Unlimited MAX plan. This just came out in January 2022, and it’s an awesome plan.

For $50 per month you get 22GB of premium data, 10GB of hotspot data, 4K video streaming, and free unlimited high-speed data roaming in Canada and Mexico.

You also get 100GB of cloud storage included for free as a perk, and 5G access on AT&T’s 5G network.

Unfortunately, the one big downside to this plan is that you can only sign up in-store at Walmart. And even then I’ve heard stories of reps perhaps not knowing about the plan, or people having trouble getting the Unlimited MAX plan, or even the plan not being available at some Walmarts.

So if you want to avoid the hassle, or maybe you don’t live near a Walmart, the next best plan is Cricket’s Unlimited Core plan.

Cricket’s Unlimited Core plan is $50 per month with the auto-pay discount, and the price includes all taxes and fees.

What you’re getting is truly unlimited data, but the data is deprioritized. This means when the AT&T network is busy, you may notice slightly slower speeds than customers paying a premium for AT&T Unlimited Extra or AT&T Unlimited Premium.

This likely won’t be too noticeable, and the moment the network is no longer congested you’ll resume getting the fastest speeds available.

As an entry-level plan, Cricket Core streams video at 480p and doesn’t support the hotspot. Thankfully it does offer unlimited high-speed data roaming in Canada and Mexico.

It also supports 5G, but for Android users only on Cricket-branded phones. iPhone users are lucky and can either choose to buy a phone from Cricket or bring their own phone and will still get 5G access.

The #1 best cheap T-Mobile unlimited plan is easily the Walmart Family Mobile plan. I haven’t been able to find anything close to this kind of value at this price point.

For $50 per month you get truly unlimited data, 30GB of hotspot data, 720p video streaming, and add-ons available for international calling.

It’s simple. It’s affordable. It’s a great value. And it’s also only available at Walmart.

So if you live near Walmart, I encourage you to check this plan out, but if you don’t, the next best plan is pretty good too.

The alternate pick for the best cheap unlimited data plan is T-Mobile Prepaid’s $50 unlimited plan.

For the same $50 monthly price, you sacrifice 30GB of high-speed hotspot data for unlimited hotspot data at 600Kbps (which is so slow it’s basically only good for email) in exchange for getting 50GB of premium data.

Premium data means you get the exact same network performance and experience as T-Mobile Magenta and Magenta MAX customers. Anytime the T-Mobile network is busy, such as at sports games, concerts, stadiums, airports, or other crowded areas, your speeds on T-Mobile Prepaid will be slightly faster than the speeds you’d get on Walmart Family Mobile.

Another perk of going with T-Mobile Prepaid directly is that you get 100MB of domestic roaming data.

Domestic roaming is where your phone uses a partner network for coverage, like in Vermont where T-Mobile customers will roam on the AT&T network for coverage because T-Mobile doesn’t have any native service there.

This feature is nice because it can give you coverage in a few more places, but 100MB of data is so little this feature is primarily a backup for making calls and sending texts.

6 Best Value Unlimited Plans

Next up, I’m recommending the six best value unlimited data plans on Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

These plans offer the best combination of features, perks, and price to deliver an overall awesome value.

If you didn’t like something about the best cheap unlimited plans, whether it was the lack of high-speed hotspot data or having deprioritized data s[eeds, then these best value unlimited plans are for you.

Most of these plans include premium data (also called priority data), plenty of hotspot data, and sometime great perks like Amazon Prime or HBO MAX being included for free.

The best value unlimited data plans come from Cricket, Metro by T-Mobile, US Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, and Verizon Prepaid

  2. Best value T-Mobile unlimited plan: Metro by T-Mobile Unlimited

Cricket’s top-tier plan, their Unlimited More plan is easily the best value unlimited plan on the AT&T network.

Compared to Cricket Unlimited Core, which I recommended as the best cheap unlimited plan, Cricket Unlimited More upgrades the data to unlimited premium data, adds 15GB of high-speed hotspot data, 150GB of free cloud storage, and a free HBO MAX subscription with adds.

You also continue to get the high-speed data roaming in Canada and Mexico and the 5G access with the same limitations.

Video streaming remains capped at 480p, but thankfully you can get around this by using a VPN. Consider using my partner ExpressVPN, and get three months free when you sign up at with my link

Oh, and Cricket Unlimited More adds all these features with just a $5 price increase with the auto-pay discount. It’s just $55 per month.

The best value T-Mobile plan is Metro by T-Mobile’s $60 Unlimited Plan.

This includes unlimited data, but the data is deprioritized. This means you may notice slightly slower speeds in the select few times the T-Mobile network is busy, but I don’t think you’re likey to notice at all. When I reviewed Metro by T-Mobile, I never noticed being deprioritzed and had no issues with my data speeds.

Metro’s plan also includes 15GB of hotspot data, and it adds in great perks.

It includes a free Amazon Prime membership as well as 100GB of free Google One storage.

And speaking of things that are included, all taxes and fees are included with all Metro plans, so this is $60 flat and would come out to a littles less than T-Mobile Prepaid.

For $60, you’re getting a great plan with great perks. An easy recommendation.

Next up, I’m recommending US Mobile’s Unlimited Premium Plan.

This is $45 per month, which is already a great price, and it includes some killer features.

When you activate with a 5G phone, you get priority data, which means you get the same performance as Verizon’s postpaid plans directly. You’ll have faster speeds anytime the Verizon network is busy.

You also get 50GB of hotspot data, 720p video streaming, and up to 10GB of free international roaming data in 153 countries.

It’s more expensive than Visible, the best cheap unlimited data plan on Verizon for $25 per month, but you get some great features with US Mobile that I think make it well worth the extra price.

Plus, US Mobile’s family discount will drop the cost of the plan down to just $30 per line.

Another great value plan on the Verizon netowrk is Xfinity Mobile’s unlimited plan.

I’m calling this the “best bundle plan” because it includes great perks & discounts when you bundle it with your Xfinity internet service. More on that in just a bit.

This plan is $45 per month and includes 20GB of data at fast speeds, and then unlimited data at 1.5Mbps down and 750Kbps up. You also get 5GB of high-speed hotspot data.

I think this is right on the edge of being an unlimited plan.

20GB of high-speed data is plenty for most people, and the 1.5Mbps speed cap is enough for stuff to still work, but I think it’s kind of meh when you compare it to US Mobile’s Unlimited plan.

That said, Xfinity Mobile’s plan is here because it has 5 key perks that make it an overall great value:

  1. You get premium data. That means the same data speeds and priority as Verizon postpaid customers directly.
  2. You currently get unlimited access to Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network, and 5G Ultra Wideband doesn’t count against your 20GB high-speed allotment. It also kinda means you get unlimited high-speed hotspot data on 5G Ultra Wideband too, which is awesome.
  3. You get free unlimited access to Xfinity’s over 19 million Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide. Usage on these hotspots also doesn’t count toward your 20GB high-speed allowance.
  4. Xfinity gives you a bundle discount when you have mobile and Internet, which saves you up to $30 per month on your Xfinity Internet plan. That alone helps make this plan such a great value.
  5. Xfinity has great discounts on phones for new customers or existing customers who add a line. You can currently get $250 off a new iPhone. And the best part is that no trade-in is required.

If you’re an existing Xfinity customer, Xfinity Mobile is easily worth a look. Check out my Xfinity Mobile review for more information.

T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited Plus is a great pick for anyone who wants a premium experience on the T-Mobile network.

It includes the same 50GB of premium data as the regular T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited plan, and for $10 extra it adds in 10GB of high-speed hotspot data.

This plan is also a WAY better value than T-Mobile Essentials, the cheapest postpaid plan T-Mobile offers.

Compared to Essentials, T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited Plus is the same price and includes 50GB premium data for a better network experience (Essentials is deprioritized), and 10GB of high-speed hotspot data (Essentials limits hotspot to 600Kbps).

So if you’re are just a single-line user, don’t get Essentials. Go with T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited Plus.

Okay, number six on this list is Verizon’s own Prepaid Unlimited Plus plan.

Besides Visible, this is basically the cheapest truly unlimited plan you can get on the Verizon network. And that’s why it’s here.

No 100GB limit like US Mobile (though 100GB is still absurdly high), and no 20GB high-speed limit like on Xfinity Mobile.

It’s $70 per month with the auto-pay discount, and it includes unlimited data, 10GB of hotspot data, 480p video streaming, and half a gig of high-speed data roaming in Canada, Mexico, and the US Virgin Islands.

You also get full access to Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network.

Finally, Verizon’s Loyalty discount drops the price to as low as $60/month after 10 months, which makes this plan an even better value.

3 Best Postpaid Unlimited Plans

And rounding off this list of the 15 best unlimited data plans, we have the three best postpaid unlimited plans!

These plans are from the major carriers directly: AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon

  1. Best postpaid AT&T unlimited plan: AT&T Unlimited Premium
  2. Best postpaid T-Mobile unlimited plan: T-Mobile Magenta MAX
  3. Best postpaid Verizon unlimited plan: Verizon 5G Get More

For the best AT&T postpaid plan, I was going to recommend AT&T Unlimited Extra. I believe Unlimited Extra is the best value postpaid plan from AT&T, offering the best balance between price and features.

But when I compared Unlimited Extra to Cricket’s Unlimited More plan, I noticed Cricket was a lower price and included more features.

Cricket Unlimited More AT&T Unlimited Extra
Single Line Cost $55 (taxes included) $85 (taxes extra)
4 Lines $33/line (taxes included) $40/line (taxes extra)
Premium Data Unlimited 50GB
Hotspot 15GB 15GB
Video Streaming 480p, up to 1.5Mbps 480p, up to 1.5Mbps
Canada & Mexico Free unlimited data roaming in Canada & Mexico Free unlimited data roaming in Canada & Mexico
International Texting Free international texting to 37 countries Free international texting to 200+ destinations
International Data Not avaliable $10 per day
Perk 1 HBO MAX with ads included for free Stadia Pro free for 6 months
Perk 2 150GB free cloud storage -

Cricket’s plan has more priority data, more perks, and saves you $240 per year.

And that’s before AT&T tacks on all the extra taxes and fees, which can easily add up to be 20% of the plan cost. That would mean Cricket could save you up to $420 per year.

Plus, Cricket even has a better family discount.

No, Unlimited Extra isn’t the postpaid AT&T plan to get.

Instead, the only real upgrade AT&T offers is AT&T Unlimited Premium.

It upgrades five things:

  1. It gives you a higher tier of priority data for potentially even faster speeds in crowded area
  2. It over doubles your hotspot data to 50GB total
  3. It includes up to 4K video streaming
  4. It gives you free data roaming in 19 Latin American countries and the option for international data roaming at $10 per day
  5. It upgrades the price

Yes, all these extra features come in at a HEFTY price increase. You’ll be paying $85 per month for a single line on AT&T Unlimited Premium.

Even with AT&T’s signature discount, which knocks the price down by either $10 per line or 25% depending on your qualifying discount, I don’t think AT&T Unlimited Premium is worth the premium price for most people.

I still believe Cricket’s Unlimited More plan is a better overall value for most people.

Which I guess is why Cricket’s plan is in the “best value unlimited plans” category, and AT&T’s Unlimited Premium plan is here in the “best postpaid unlimited plans” category.

The choice is yours, but I’d consider giving Cricket a look before shelling out the big bucks to AT&T.

And finally, the #15 best unlimited plan is Verizon’s 5G Get More unlimited plan.

This is the best of the best in terms of Verizon’s plans.

It includes unlimited premium data, 50GB of hotspot data, 720p video streaming, free data roaming in Canada and Mexico, and a metric ton of perks.

We’re talking free Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, free Apple Music, free Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass, one free TravelPass day per month, 50% off a tablet or connected device line, and 50% off Verizon 5G Home Internet or $30 off FiOS internet.

Phew.

It’s expensive at $90 per month with auto-pay, double the price of US Mobile Unlimited Premium, but you certainly get what you pay for.
