The 5 Best T-Mobile Unlimited Plans

In this article I am covering the top 5 best unlimited data plans available on the T-Mobile network:
- Best cheap T-Mobile unlimited plan: Walmart Family Mobile
- Best cheap T-Mobile unlimited plan (alternate pick): T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited
- Best value T-Mobile unlimited plan: Metro by T-Mobile Unlimited
- Best premium T-Mobile unlimited plan: T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited Plus
- Best postpaid T-Mobile unlimited plan: T-Mobile Magenta MAX
Do You Need Unlimited Data?
First, do you really need unlimited data?
It turns out that people in North America only use about 14.6GB per month on average, according to Ericsson’s 2021 Mobility Report.
And it also turns out that people who are on unlimited plans, even the top-tier AT&T Unlimited Premium plan, are only using about 18GB to 20GB per month on average.
This means people are paying for data they don’t need!
I don’t want this to happen to you. Checking your data usage and getting a cell phone plan that meets your specific needs is one of the best ways to lower your cell phone bill.
If it turns out that you only need 5GB of data per month, why pay $60 or more for an unlimited plan?

Instead of getting an expensive $60+ unlimited plan, you could consider Mint Mobile’s 35GB plan.
35GB is still heaps of data; plenty for a majority of people out there.
You could likely continue using your phone exactly as you normally would, listening to all the music you want, watching all the YouTube you want, playing all the games you want, and binging all the TikToks you want, and still not go over the 35GB limit.
I mean, 35GB is over double what the average person uses in one month!
The most data I’ve ever used has been 18GB.
And the best part?
Mint Mobile’s 35GB plan is just $30/month. You’d save over $360 per year compared to T-Mobile’s cheapest entry-level unlimited plan.
My goal is to help as many people as possible save money on their monthly cell phone bill. Checking your data usage and getting a plan that meets your specific needs is one of the best ways to do this.
If you’re using less than 35GB, you can switch to Mint Mobile’s plan and save big.
And if it turns out that you are using over 35GB per month?
Then I’ve got you covered with the best unlimited data plans on the T-Mobile’s network:
1. Best cheap T-Mobile unlimited plan: Walmart Family Mobile
The #1 best plan is easily the Walmart Family Mobile plan. I haven’t been able to find anything close to this kind of value at this price point.
For $50 per month you get unlimited data, 30GB of hotspot data, 720p video streaming, and add-ons available for international calling.
It’s simple. It’s affordable. It’s a great value.
And it’s also only available at Walmart. So if you live near Walmart, I encourage you to check this plan out, but if you don’t, the next best plan is pretty good too.
2. Best cheap T-Mobile unlimited plan (alternate pick): T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited
The next plan I recommend is the T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited plan.
For the same $50 price as Walmart Family Mobile, you basically make two key changes:
- You sacrifice 30GB of high-speed hotspot data for unlimited hotspot data at 600Kbps
- You gain 50GB of premium data
- You get domestic roaming
The slow hotspot speeds at 600Kbps are definitely a bummer. 600Kbps is about fast enough for light email use, but heavier web browsing can be frustratingly slow.
The 50GB of premium data is a nice upgrade though. Premium data means that your data speeds will be slightly faster during times of network congestion.
Check out our Premium Data Explained article to learn more, and to see exactly what the speed differences may be like.
Another perk of going with T-Mobile Prepaid directly is that you get 100MB of domestic roaming data.
Domestic roaming is where your phone uses a partner network for coverage, like in Vermont where T-Mobile customers will roam on the AT&T network for coverage because T-Mobile doesn’t have any native service there.
This feature is nice because it can give you coverage in a few more places, but with just 100MB of data is basically useless and primarily a backup for making calls and sending texts.
3. Best value T-Mobile unlimited plan: Metro by T-Mobile Unlimited
The best value plan on the T-Mobile network comes from Metro by T-Mobile. It’s their $60 unlimited plan.
What makes this plan special is its combination of features and perks.
Metro includes unlimited data, 15GB of high-speed hotspot data, and 480p video streaming, which are great core features at this price point.
In terms of perks, you get a free subscription to Amazon Prime as well as 100GB of free Google One storage. Those add great value to this plan, especially the Amazon Prime membership.
Unfortunately, Metro’s plan is deprioritized, so you may notice slightly slower speeds when T-Mobile’s network is busy. When the network is no longer busy, you’ll resume getting the fastest speeds available.
Metro by T-Mobile’s plan is an excellent choice for the price.
4. Best premium T-Mobile unlimited plan: T-Mobile Prepaid Unlimited Plus
T-Mobile’s Prepaid Unlimited Plus plan earns my pick as the best premium plan.
It includes 50GB of premium data, 10GB of hotspot data, and 100MB of domestic roaming data.
It’s not perfect though. Video only streams at 480p, and it lacks options for international data roaming.
Thankfully these are pretty minor compromises though, especially since the plan is just $60 per month.
You can easily use a VPN to bypass the 480p limit and enable 4K video streaming. Consider checking out our partner ExpressVPN, which is one of the top-rated VPNs for video streaming. Get 3 months extra for free when you sign up today at ExpressVPN.com/Stetson.
You can also easily get affordable international plans from other providers.
For example, Airalo offers an affordable international eSIM plan that gives you 5GB of data in the UK for just $15. And they support 190+ other countries with other affordable international plans, too.
5. Best postpaid T-Mobile unlimited plan: T-Mobile Magenta MAX
Lastly, the best postpaid plan is T-Mobile Magenta MAX.
This is the top-tier plan T-Mobile offers, and it comes with a top-tier price tag: $85 per month.
Thankfully, all taxes and fees are included, and you certainly get what you pay for.
You get unlimited premium data, 40GB of hotspot data, 4K video streaming, 5GB of free international data roaming in 210 supported destinations, 5GB of free data roaming in Canada and Mexico, and a bunch of extra perks.
If you want the best-of-the-best and have the budget for it, Magenta MAX is the plan for you on the T-Mobile network.
